Catherine Coldstream was born in London, and grew up loving music, words, and books. After converting to Roman Catholicism, in her twenties, she spent 12 years as a nun in a silent order. She has since studied at the Universities of Oxford, East Anglia, and London, and taught philosophy and ethics in schools. She has written on many aspects of contemplative spirituality and the arts, had her poetry and nonfiction shortlisted, and published in a variety of journals and anthologies. She is associate editor of MONK arts magazine, and a keen amateur musician. Her memoir, in which she reflects on her experience of monasticism, is forthcoming from Chatto & Windus.
