Lana Estemirova works for the Justice for Journalists Foundation, a London-based charity which fights against attacks on the media. She has also produced The Trouble with Truth podcast, interviewing journalists about the challenges they face in their work, and formerly worked as a freelance journalist for the Guardian and the Moscow Times. She studied International Relations at the London School of Economics and now lives in Lisbon with her husband.
Lana is also the daughter of Natalia Estemirova, the Chechen human rights activist, who was killed in 2009 when Lana was just 15 years-old. Natalia exposed much of the terrible abuse that was being inflicted upon the Chechen population by the Russian occupiers. Lana's forthcoming memoir is the fulfilment of a promise made at her mother's grave.
