Born in Nagoya, Japan, Naoko is a former staff writer for the Mainichi Newspaper, one of Japan’s most influential newspapers. She moved to London in 2001 and has written extensively about British society for Japanese publications. ‘Cherry’ Ingram: The Englishman who Saved Japan’s Blossoms won the prestigious Nihon Essayist Club Award in 2016. Her new book, The Martyr and the Red Kimono, is published by Chatto & Windus.
