Peter Carpenter is a writer, tutor and publisher. For many years he was a RLF Visiting Fellow at Warwick University and he has tutored for many Arts organisations, including the Arvon Foundation and the Royal Academy; he has worked and read at Aldeburgh, Ledbury and many other festivals. Peter’s chapter on Creative Writing appeared in the OUP Handbook of British and Irish Poetry. He is a co-founder of Elemental Poetry, an environmental writing project based in Cambridge.
He has had seven collections of poetry published, including ‘After the Goldrush’ (Nine Arches), ‘The Black-Out Book’ (Arc), and ‘Just Like That’ (Smith|Doorstop). Reviews, critical essays and articles include pieces on J.G. Ballard, Roger Deakin, photographer Boris Mikhailov, Shakespeare & T.S. Eliot. Work has appeared and been favourably reviewed in journals including the TLS, Poetry Review, Agenda, the Independent and PNR; poems have been widely anthologised; for example, in Bloodaxe's ‘Lifesaving Poems’.
He now lives outside Oxford with his wife, Amanda, a sustainability activist. They co-direct independent micro-press, Worple.
